Blue or Brightly Coloured Water
Blue, pink or other brightly coloured water coming from one or more of your taps is unusual and indicates a problem with your plumbing.
When the water is brightly coloured, the cause is likely to be water back siphoning from the toilet cistern, made noticeable by a coloured disinfectant block used in the toilet cistern.
If this occurs, contact your water supplier as soon as possible and they will be able to help resolve this for you and ensure your water is safe to drink.
It is likely you will need some plumbing work to resolve this and protect against any back flow from the toilet cistern in the future.
When you are looking for a plumbing business, we recommend you select one a plumber who is a member of the WaterSafe Scheme, a national accreditation body for competent and qualified plumbers.
Visit watersafe to find an approved plumber near you.
On rare occasions, a blue colouration to the water may also be caused by corrosion of copper plumbing. The blue colour indicates that there are quite high levels of copper in the water. The problem normally only occurs where there is relatively new copper plumbing. The blue colour will disappear when the tap is run. If the colour persists then you should contact your water supplier, who can investigate.
